🗺️ 24 provincias, one very special city
Argentina is divided into 23 provincias plus one extra-special place: the Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires (CABA) — the capital city, which is its own province all by itself! Don't mix it up with provincia de Buenos Aires next door, whose capital is actually La Plata. Fly into each provincia and watch its real border light up — from tiny Tucumán in the north to giant Santa Cruz in the frosty south.
⛰️ Aconcagua — the roof of the Americas
Along the whole western edge of Argentina rise the mighty Andes, the longest mountain range on Earth. Hidden among them is Aconcagua, standing 6,961 metres tall — the highest mountain in the Americas AND in the whole Southern and Western Hemisphere! Climbers from all over the world come to try to reach its icy summit.
🌊 Rivers that never stop
The enormous Paraná river flows down from Brazil, joined by the Uruguay, before both pour into the giant Río de la Plata — so wide near Buenos Aires that it looks more like a sea than a river! Down south, the Colorado and Negro rivers cross the dry Patagonian plains on their way to the Atlantic Ocean.
🏞️ Icy lakes of Patagonia
In the far south, near the border with Chile, you'll find glacier-fed lakes with brilliant turquoise water — like Nahuel Huapi, ringed by snowy peaks, and Lago Argentino, fed by melting glaciers. All the way at the bottom of the country lies Tierra del Fuego ("Land of Fire") — the southernmost tip of South America, right across the water from Antarctica!

- The border with Chile runs 5,308 km — almost entirely along the top of the Andes!
- Buenos Aires and its surroundings (Gran Buenos Aires) are home to more than 10 million people — almost a quarter of the whole country.
- Argentina stretches so far — from about 22°S to 55°S — that it has jungle in the north and icy glaciers in the south, all in one country.
